Course Summary
On this introductory course you will gain experience in using a range of basic listening and supportive skills, along with an outline understanding of three approaches to counselling. The course also looks at issues which relate to counselling and the use of supportive skills, for example:
• Ethics
• Referral
• Registration
• Accreditation
• Supervision

The course content covers a mixture of theory and practice. As well as learning about counselling approaches and the individual skills involved, students have the opportunity to practise their skills under the guidance of their tutor.

The course will cover the following areas:
• Principles of person centred therapy.
• Counselling skills
• Principles of other therapeutic orientations (Psychodynamic and Behaviourist)
• Personal Development
• Legal and professional issues, including ethics
• Contracting in counselling sessions
What are the entry requirements?
There are no formal entry trquirements for this course.
What will you achieve?
You will receive a level 2 certificate from The Awarding Body Consortium. This awarding body is approved by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority to offer qualifications throughout the UK. The Counselling Concepts Certificate is supported by Skills for Health and is in line with National Occupational Standards.

The learning and skills gained on the course will enhance your employment prospects by demonstrating commitment to effective communication and to personal and professional development. While this qualification does not allow students to practice as qualified counsellors, it is seen by employers as evidence of transferable skills and thus enhances employment prospects.
