Diploma in the Theory and Practice of Counselling, Level 4

Ref: S06392

Course Summary

A two year part-time course which includes academic theory and skills development. The course includes a 100-hour placement requirement and two mandatory residential weekends, one per year.

Why choose this course?

As well as learning about counselling approaches and the underpinning theoretical concepts involved, students have the opportunity to further develop their skills in a counselling placement. Throughout this they will work with a professional casework supervisor in addition to receiving the guidance and support of class tutors.

What will I learn?

At Diploma level you will build on the knowledge and skills gained at level three. You will also enhance and develop your ability as a professional reflective practitioner through constant interchange of experiences between your placement practice and classroom work. At Diploma level every aspect of theory and practice is covered in more depth using as a firm foundation the knowledge, skills and self development obtained from the Level 3 course.

What are the entry requirements?

Successful completion of the ABC Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Skills or evidence of having met the equivalent standards, including assessment, elsewhere. A reference confirming successful completion of the level 3 course must be obtained.

A successful one to one interview with a member of the Counselling teaching team.

What will you achieve?

You will receive a level 4 Diploma certificate from The Awarding Body Consortium. This awarding body is approved by the Qualifications and Credit Framework to offer qualifications throughout the UK. The ABC Diploma is supported by Skills for Health and is in line with National Occupational Standards.

Where can I go next?

The Level 4 Diploma is designed for those seeking to be professionally qualified counsellors. Learners may progress to Postgraduate and Post-Qualifying courses in counselling studies that are designed to enhance the practice, skills and knowledge of a practising counsellor.

What facilities do we have?

In addition to the usual classroom facilities, we have a range of resource centres and student support services.

How much will it cost?
