Course Summary

This course is designed to raise awareness of the differing mental health issues and conditions people experience and suffer with. Develop knowledge and understanding when dealing with people with mental health problems. Raise awareness of the Mental Capacity Act.

What will I learn?

What might indicate good mental health?
What might indicate poor mental health?
What is stress, including the causes, signs and symptoms?
The short and long term damage stress can do if untreated or addressed.
The different types of mental health disorders.
The statistics relating to mental health.
The cost of mental health.
The negative attitudes and behaviours towards mental health.
The legislation in relation to mental health.
The impact of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and its relevance in relation to mental health
National Service Framework for Mental Health.

The second part of this half day session will cover: The Mental Capacity Act Deprivation of Liberty safeguards (formerly known as the Bournewood safeguards) were introduced into the Mental Capacity Act 2005 through the Mental Health Act 2007 (which received Royal Assent in July 2007).

What are the entry requirements?

This course is for health care professionals working with people with mental health issues or anyone who wants to raise their awareness on the mental health. It is also for health care professionals working with vulnerable people in particular those who need to be aware of the mental capacity act within their professional working environment.

The dates for the course is flexible and the times are either 9:30am - 12:30pm or 1:30pm to 4:30pm.
