Course Summary

The Level 2 is now provided as a progression route to the level 3 Diploma for the Children's and Young People's Workforce, as the government aim is for all practitioners to be qualified to a level 3 minimum. 

Mandatory Units;

  • Communication in Health, Social Care or Children & Young People's Settings
  • Introduction to Equality & Inclusion in Health, Social Care or Children and Young People's Settings
  • Introduction to Personal Development in Health, Social Care or Children and Young People's Settings
  • Child and Young Person Development
  • Support Child & Young Person Development
  • Safeguard the welfare of Children & Young People
  • Support Children & Young People's Health & Safety
  • Support Children & Young People's Positive Behaviour
  • Support Positive Environments for Children and Young People
  • Understand Partnership Working in Services for Children & Young People
  • Paediatric first aid. x2 units
  • Maintain & Support Relationships with Children & Young People

Optional Units - there are various optional units and it's predicted that 1 or 2 units will be taken. (dependent upon credit accumulation)

To acheive you must have 35 credits in total.

Why choose this course?

This course has been designed to help students develop and improve practical skills, and qualifications required for working with children in the early years sector.

What will I learn?

The course will involve all the underpinning knowledge and skills required to work in a setting of your choice.

Development patterns for 0-19 years will be taught and used in assessment and evaluation of children's development.

What are the entry requirements?

Students may be accepted without standard qualifications. 

Personal skills and current experience will be taken into consideration.  All students must engage in nursery practice, minimum 16 hours per week.

All applicants are expected to attend a presentation evening or interview in college.

What will you achieve?

Unlike the previous level 2 qualification in Children's Care, Learning and Development, the new Level 2 Certificate for Children's Young & People's Workforce is designed as a progression to the Level 3 Diploma - not as a stand alone qualification.
