Course Summary
This half day course which is designed to assist the individual develop an understanding of infection control.
What will I learn?
Course content;
- The course starts with an exercise to help explain what infection control is about. This is followed by definitions of ‘infection’ and ‘infestation’.
- The types of infection are discussed and explained to the students.
- The spread of infection and the ways in which this could happen in their work environment, together with the routes of entry of pathogens in to the body. We discuss who the susceptible groups of people are and how we can help protect them from harm.
- Following a short break a video runs through some of the issues to consider with risk assessment including, infection control policy, COSHH, RIDDOR, dealing with infections and infestations and dealing with personal protective equipment issues.
- How to maintain hygiene standards including:
- Hand hygiene, Protective clothing, Cleanliness, Bodily fluids, Blood-borne diseases, Urinary catheterisation, Waste management, Laundry
Included in this section will be an exercise in hand washing to demonstrate the importance of correct hand washing, this uses a powder and an ultra violet light to highlight ineffective hand washing.
The course is completed with a 20 question multiple choice exam paper.
