The Diploma in Teaching in the lifelong learning sector is designed for those already in a full teaching role, or intending to enter the profession in that role. The qualification is appropriate for teachers, tutors and trainers who may be working in an FE college, Adult and Community learning centre or a learning provider that delivers work based training.

The Diploma gives the learner the underpinning knowledge, understanding and skills to effectively fulfil a full teaching or training practitioner role.

What will I learn?

In year 1 the topics include: PTLLS (level 4), Planning and enabling learning (level 4), Theories and principles for planning and enabling learning (level 4) and Developing and managing resources in the lifelong learning sector (level 4).

In year 2 the topics include: Continuing personal and professional development (level 5), Curriculum development for inclusive practice (level 5), Wider professional practice (level 5) and Action research (Level 5).

What are the entry requirements?

  • A minimum level 3 in the area of your specialism
  • Level 2 or equivalent in maths and english
  • A first degree
  • A professional qualification recognised as being of practitioner level
  • Relevant industrial or commercial experience
  • A suitable CRB check
  • Access to a suitable teaching or training placement

What will you achieve?

The level 5 Diploma in teaching in the lifelong learning sector.

Access to QTLS (Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills status)
